HISTORY: TMaid of Kent was built to the “Little Maid of Kent” design by William Atkin published in MotorBoating magazine in 1930. The plans are still available today from the family Atkin & Co.

Maid of Kent, a 30‘ Marconi schooner, was built by Willard Marine of Costa Mesa in 1962 and moved to San Diego Bay in 1966. Maid of Kent was a founding member of the Ancient Mariners Sailing Society (AMSS) in 1975, and she was pictured in the bicentennial issue (July 1976) of Yachting magazine as a representative of the new classic yacht organization (AMSS) in San Diego. Maid of Kent is the only founding flag member boat still actively sailing with the AMSS. Jerry and Marcia acquired Maid of Kent in 1981 and are the third owners. They have cruised Maid of Kent from Manzanillo, Mexico to the Channel Islands in California. She is also actively sailed in classic yacht races in Southern California.

Maid of Kent was completely rebuilt in 2017 by master shipwright Frank Townsend at Koehler Kraft boatyard in San Diego. She was replanked with sapele, edge glued over the original apetong frames in 5 months and relaunched two days prior to the 2017 America’s Schooner Cup, where she placed second in class.
